Amber Fort

 
amber fortAmber Fort,built in 16th century by Maharaja Man Singh, it sprawls on the hillside. Its construction was started by Raja Man Singh but completed by his descendant Jai Singh. Amber is the classic romantic Rajasthan fort palace. Amber today is nothing but a reflection of the glorious past of the fierce Kachwaha Dynasty that ruled over this region from 12th to 18th century. the Amber fort is built in re sandstone and white marble; the palace complex has very interesting apartments. the old township of Amber lies at the foothills of the palace and has an old world charm. The rugged walls of this fort may not look beautiful from outside, but the interior is a virtual paradise and painted scenes of hunting and wars adorn the walls along with precious stones and mirrors set into the plaster

Jaigarh Fort

jaigarh-fort.jpgJaigarh fort, is a rugged structure built in 1726 by Sawai Jai Singh situated in the north of Jaipur. Its structure is quite similar to Amber Fort. The only exception is that it houses the mighty Jaivana, the largest wheeled canon in the world. Other attractions in the Jaigarh Fort include three water tanks, a museum, and breathtaking views of the city below. The Western skyline is dominated by the extensive walls, watch towers and gateways of Jaigarh built by Jai Singh in 1726. It is one of the few military structures of medieval India preserved almost intact, containing palaces, gardens, open and covered reservoirs, a granary, an armory, a canon foundry and several Temples. It was the royal treasury for several years. The world's largest cannon on wheels is to be found here. The fort has its own museum and provides an excellent view of Amer Palace.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

Fort Chanwa Luni

Mehrangarh Fort

Birla Mandir

Eklingji Temple

Eklingji (Shiva) whose temple is located here, is said to be the guardian deity of Mewar.The temple is famous for its 108 temples complex. Built on a shore of a small lake surrounded by hills it is also known as Kailashpuri or the abode of Shiva.The magnificent architecture of Eklingnath Temple is simply remarkable. The double-storied temple looks awesome with its pyramidal style of roof and distinctly carved tower. The outer walls of the temple are stretched with steps that descend touching the serene waters. Inside the complex, the main temple is a huge pillared hall or 'mandap' that is sheltered by hefty pyramidal roof. On entering this hall, there is a silver image of Nandi. In the temple, there are two other images of Nandi carved in black stone and brass respectively.

Ossian Temples

Though Ossian does not figure in the regular tourist guides of India, yet this once prosperous city, boasts of more than 100 Hindu and Jain temples dating back to the Medieval age.The temples here are among the earliest of all medieval temples of Rajasthan. Ruins of several temples dot the present day Ossian. The earlier temples are almost like miniature shrines, some only eight feet in height. Among these intricately carved red sandstone edifices, three are dedicated to Harihara- or the union of Vishnu and Shiva.Profusely carved from their raising plinths, pillars and right upto the very pinnacle of the spires, these temples are considered architectural masterpieces even by foreign scholars such as Percy Brown, James Burgess and Herman Goetz.

Ajmer Government Museum

The huge palatial building Kachahari Kalan, once the administrative block of the rulers of Bharatpur state, was converted into a Museum in 1944. Lateron, the Kamra Khas (personal chamber) building on the first floor was added to the museum. It exhibits sculptures found during the excavation of old villages e.g. Noh, Mailah, Bareh, Bayana etc. ranging from the Kuslian period.

Junagarh Fort Museum

It contains a fine collection of antique Rajput, weaponry, jade handle daggers, camel hide d17als (shields) and inlaid handguns and camel guns. Cold and silver howdahs, jhulas, kis and a firstworld war biplane are on view. Other important objects include a pairof drums belonging to jamblioji, the saint who predicted the foundation of the dynasty by Rao Bika for 450 years. Photographs and items of personal use by Maharaja Ganga Singh and miniatures are also on view.

Ganga Golden JubileeGanga Golden Jubilee Museum, situated at Bikaner, is one of the best museums in Rajasthan. It was established in 1937, near the Lalgarh Palace, on the eve of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Maharaja Gaiiga Singh. Later in 1954, the museum was shifted to a new building in the Civil Lines and is now run by the Government of Rajasthan.The museums contains an array of items used and collected by Maharaja Ganga Singh and his successors. Some of them are trophies, movie projectors, cameras, old photographs, weapons, etc. there is also the Anup Library housing a rare and valuable collection of Sanskrit manuscripts.

Amer Palace
